image of war - war photography museum

Zagreb, Croatia - Hebrangova 4 (near Zrinjevac park)

We reached our goal!

Through the crowdfunding campaign we collected more than $8000 for the costs of running the first exhibition. This exhibition will feature professional photos depicting horrors of war, but also amateur photos and stories showing how war looks like from the perspective of ordinary people.

Thanks to this overwhelming support, the museum will open its doors already in July.

WHERE WERE WE IN 1991?

The opening exhibition in "Image of War" museum will cover the period of war in Croatia from 1991 to 1995. Alongside world-renowned photographers, we will present amateur photographs and personal stories from this period.

"IMAGE OF WAR" MUSEUM

PRESERVE THE PAST

The past provides us with the lessons about the catastrophe of war that we must not forget.

INFLUENCE THE PRESENT

A portion of all tickets sold will be donated to refugees and forcibly displaced persons.

CHANGE THE FUTURE

The world of peace begins by raising awareness of the cosequences brought on by war.

"NEVER AGAIN" BEGINS WITH YOU

Frequently asked questions

Want to know more? You can probably find answers here.
Why we decided to open a museum?

Museum’s purpose is to respond to the increasing trivialization of war and its consequences. Public discourse regarding armed conflict has become increasingly callous and indifferent, even though here in Croatia we lived through a horrific conflict 23 years ago and still feel today its social as well as economic consequences. We intend to counteract these tendencies through photography, documentaries and informative events. The goal is to have an informed dialogue with visitors and educate them about the devastating consequences of war and the imperative of peace for everyone.

What can you find in the museum?

Museum will exhibit photographs taken by world-renowned photographers, as well as photographs taken by ordinary people. We believe that war needs to observed from various perspectives in order to understand its destructive nature.

When is the museum planned to open?

The museum venue is currently under construction and we plan to open its doors to the public in late June or early July of 2018.

Who is behind this initiative?

Museum is an independent initiative that will come to life in cooperation with the War Photo Limited museum in Dubrovnik, and other similar museums in Croatia and the world. Creative direction is provided by Brodoto social impact agency.
